The Lesson Response

Class Blog Assignment
Within the story ‘The Lesson’ the majority of the story is spent around the topic of money. Which eventually differentiates our characters from others. It clearly hints towards the characters being part of the lower society that cannot afford education at a proper school. Instead they are taught by the neighbor Miss Moore.

The Connection is made because of the scene where they were talking about the outrageous prices of the items that they saw in the store. Even now there is a difference between the social classes and in the story it is no different. The price tag represents the earnings of the people. Within the lower class and those struck by poverty, what they make is used to keep their family alive. The price of items, greatly affect those that are in that social class. When the rate of inflation raises, those in the lower class suffer.

In the story there is a talk about the worth of $35, which can be used to hire a clown or to pay for the rent and the piano bill. To people of different classes, their view of money is completely different. Some couldn’t live without money, while others meaninglessly waste their money.
